Highlight Glow 2017-11-28

Add some glow to the highlights of your image

  1. Kyle Jones
This Photoshop action creates a new layer which is brightened, has a Gaussian blur applied, and uses a soft light layer style to add a glow to your image. The blending style is set to apply this effect primarily to the highlights. Select the top layer in your layer stack and play this action to create the new layer. You can reduce the intensity by reducing the opacity of the layer and you can target it to specific parts of your image with a layer mask.

    To Install this Action:

First download it to your computer, you can download it into the location listed below or you can copy it there after downloading.

    - Photoshop CS 6
    Windows: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Presets\Actions

    - Photoshop CC
    Windows: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC*<version>\Presets\Actions

    Mac: <Username>/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CC*<version> Presets\Actions

Next you have to load it into Photoshop itself:

If you don't have the Actions Panel open already -
Click on the Windows Menu, then click on Actions

In the Actions Panel in the upper right part of the panel you will see a down arrow next to 3 horizontal bars, click on that.

A pop up menu will appear, click on "Load Actions" part way down the list.

A Browser Window will open, just click on the Action set that you want to load.

    How to use an Action:

Select the Action you want to use in the Action Panel by clicking on it. Then at the bottom of the Actions Panel, click on Play. That's it!

This is a great quick way to add some subtle glow. It's not an over the top glow either.
