    Let’s play #23

Thank you. I used the lasso tool to select the two mountains and then did a curves adjustment to lighten just that area (feathered the selection at about 55 pixels). Duplicated the curves layer and mask, inverted the mask, then brought the curve down to darken the surround areas o the...

    Let’s play #23

Overall a pretty nice image to work with, took a bit of thinking on how to (hopefully) differentiate my edit from others.

Vote for the Best of the Recipe 2018

IMHO... The contests here are enjoyable, and I've participated in a few of them as time permits. I think what's missing though is the critique and "why" at the voting. Rarely have I seen comments from the voters explaining what about an image drew them to vote one way or another. As...

    Laguna sunsets

I already use an Orton technique and did on this image (almost all my images in fact), so it'd just be a matter of going back and masking it out.

    Fall in the Alabama Hills

Fantastic image, think I saw this shared on one of the Owens Valley FB pages as well.

    Laguna sunsets

Thank you Mike, I often suffer that same thing you describe - lots of shots of the same thing that are essentially identical. I was happy to have a couple different compositions that really worked well that evening. While #1 is my favorite with the rush of water leading the eye into the...

    Laguna sunsets

Yup, radically different takes on the same sunset aren't they? Just 20' away from each other and a 90 degree turn towards the south for that second one. While I really like the 2nd image the 1st is the one I pick when I have to choose between the two, but they both speak to me just in...

    Laguna sunsets

The colorful sunsets have returned to Laguna Beach, went out to Wood's Cove on Friday and captured a couple of images that were worthy of editing. Not quite as colorful as I was hoping for, but still plenty there. Glad our boring summer skies are gone. A few minutes later, moved a little...

    Let’s play #16

Here's what I came up with, B&W as well as color of 2 different crops. Sharing it all because it's been agonizing to chose between them (and I put a lot of time into the full-length portrait version) but my official entry will be..... The first one, tightly cropped B&W.

    Let’s play #16

Editing done, now it's time to select crop and color vs b&w. Gah! This image has so much potential it's just silly, sooo many good options!

    Let’s play #16

I'm partway through my edit and all I've got to say is that Andrey / LionKing has some amazing detail work in that rendition. It's going to be quite challenging to produce an image that rises to that level. :) But that's good, just means it's more challenging, more effort, and more practice.

    Purple Haze.

Well deserved featured post, amazing colors!

More Narrow Gauge for Barry + video added!

I followed the Carson & Colorado restoration project on Facebook and their website for the last few years it took to get the engine operational. It was quite a project! They had to disassemble quite a bit of it, they took some significant parts (the wheel assembly I think?) up to Durango, CO...

    Vote for let's play 9-1-2018

Threads getting moved around to different sub-forums probably didn't help. For myself, I was subscribed to the forum so I'd get email alerts on all new threads. It wasn't until I logged in and poked around that I found "Let's Play" now had its own dedicated area and had to go set my alerts on...

    Congrats! Nice re-work Jameel.

    Let’s play 9-1-2018

Here's my fresh edit, I felt the simplicity of the image called for a B&W conversion. Along the way I cleaned up a few distractions including a very slight crop to get rid of some clutter from the architecture along the edges of the frame, a few bright spots catching my eye on the concrete, and...

    Let’s play 9-1-2018

I plan to, just waiting a little bit to see what others do first. :) I've got a fresh rework of the image just about done that is very similar to my original edit but different that what's been posted so far.

    Let’s play 9-1-2018

Somebody (Jim?) had mentioned trying to move out of landscape for this project, and I know what I've already done for this photo but was very curious to see what others would do especially since I'm anything but a street shooter.

Need an image for this weeks Lets play 9-1-2018

I actually had a really quiet night home alone (rare with 2 teenagers in the house and both back in school!), so I fired up LR knowing that I had to have something in there that would be usable. :)

Need an image for this weeks Lets play 9-1-2018

I just uploaded one you can use (or not). I already had it converted to .dng as that's how I import all my raw files into LR so matched the settings in the instructions and saved it out of LR.
