Rhode Rage

Rhododendrons have pretty much exploded into blooms this past week so I thought a Rhode Rage thread was in order for examples I could capture along the sidewalks and streets. There are more varieties than what I am going to show here - in particular yellow blooms - but these are specimens I can see the tops of in back yards instead of lurking out where I have easy access.

Wow... I had no idea there was that many kind of varieties. I thought there was like 2 or maybe 3 max varieties.

That's quite a nice set of colors. My favorite the second from last, followed by the 1st two. I like the subtle colors and shades.

Wow, I miss rhoadies. I love the purple and pink and bi colors.
Thanks Ben. The bicolored ones are my favorites as well.

There are about 20 varieties of what we consider proper rhododendrons. The Azalea family which is part of the genus rhododendron adds 65 more to that total. They are a very popular landscape planting in the Pacific NW so right now the suburban streets are a color riot.

Thanks Jameel - you just picked out my favorites and in the same order. I am guessing your neighborhoods look about the same as ours right about now with a complete color riot between the rhododendrons and the azaleas.
