    Pileated Woodpecker

Wow - wonderful details of this magnificent bird. I'm jealous - I have only managed to capture glimpses of these woodpeckers.

    Why They are called Floodplains

Thanks Jim - I suspect anyone building too close to Salmon Creek already knows better by now after the far more serious high water in 1996. Can't speak for the folks along the Columbia on Sauvie Island. The floods of 1996 (before I lived up here) were triggered by a lot of low elevation...

A couple of Belted Kingfishers messing around

With shooting circumstances like this you take anything you can get and have to consider yourself lucky to get anything at all. Nice recovery work.

    Dried Teasel

Nice isolation with these iconic plants. I have tried shooting these in many different kinds of light but I like your take here with the black backdrop.

Beautiful views - I like them both with the patchy light and the squalls. Nice B&W work.

    Jerash Jordan Feb 2026

Nice set - brings back some pleasant memories. Interesting to see all the green vegetation and blooms around the ruins - a good reminder of the advantages of a winter visit. All my old slides have brown where your images show green. Archaeologists have uncovered a lot more of the city since I...

    Why They are called Floodplains

The day after the atmospheric river moved out the rivers were a bit on the full side with the Columbia reminding everyone why the bottomlands down near the river are called floodplains. Not a problem for those of us living on the bench lands left by the Missoula Floods in the foreground but not...

    Great Sand Dunes

Those are definitely some big ones. At least at web resolution I can't spot any footprints - nice find.

Touron - the ultimate invasive species

    The View to Cape Sebastian

Thanks Dave - I like your Harris Beach shot with the oyster catcher down in front of the waves. Drones - the learning curve isn't that bad at all. I have never been a computer gamer so no hand skills from gaming consoles before starting out with drones. Still easy to learn. Yes my drones are...

    Spring Flowers

I have never seen these blooms before and they are beautiful. Even more so with them featured in front of the strait and the Olympics.

My take on the 2026 flowers in Death Valley

Sweet - I like your take on these blooms in these areas. Not surprised to hear that Badwater was also Bad Touron since it's an oft featured Instagram destination. The contrasts between the blooms and the naked mountainsides are quite nice.

    Sunset Glow

That's an interesting park that doesn't get a lot of attention. Interesting formations but I failed to spot any seriously red rocks when I last visited that place in 2019. I like your sunset glow in the clouds.

    Mothers Love, Great Egret, Florida

Very nice shot Roger - I like the delicate look of the lacy feathers on the doting parent with this pose.

    The Rain Stopped

Thanks Jim - Wellies might be in order right now with how wet the ground is right now. The ground is downright squishy underfoot.

    Everlasting

Thanks Jim - I was looking for something different than the rains we were experiencing when I found this in my stash :)
