Had to mess with it, sorry Jim! GIMP color>curves>equalize>mid-tone color balance ... split view - edit at left - observe stretched out histogram.

Wow! Histogram Equalization could really bring out those clouds- can demo, if OK. Pity about Apple's hill-top strong halo. Could be fixed. For example, make a mask: edge detection > threshold black and white > edit mask so only the halo is white, all else black. Maybe blur the mask halo...
