    The Old and the New

Classic pics!! Only been to Amman for about 40 minutes when my Bahrain-to-London VC10 stopped there to refuel in early 1965, at the end of a military one-year tour (RAF Muharraq).

And Now For Something Completely Different...

I use the GIMP plug-in G'MIC-Qt. Amongst many, many edit functions it has: Artistic>Stylize - based on the works of well-known artists such as Monet. Here's an original, then style of Monet's 'Lily Pond' with just one click ...

    Painful fingers

I sympathize. Had a similar neck operation three or four years ago. My left hand has chronic shaking but at least the right hand can still work the mouse so far.

    Sunset Indecision

Wow! Histogram Equalization could really bring out those clouds- can demo, if OK. Pity about Apple's hill-top strong halo. Could be fixed. For example, make a mask: edge detection > threshold black and white > edit mask so only the halo is white, all else black. Maybe blur the mask halo...

The Nuclear Sunset that I Missed

One day long ago I stepped outside for some reason only to find that my woodland clearing was bathed in a really strong orange glow. The setting Texas sun was illuminating low overhead clouds brightly to that effect. By the time I returned from fetching the camera it was almost gone, grump...

    DNA in B&W

Back with film, I wasn't really interested in Photography as a subject ... just took snaps with a Praktica MTL3 and got them developed at K-Mart. That changed when I started selling stuff on eBay and my wife's Kodak 643 wasn't really up to the job and I wanted to shoot better than the then...

    DNA in B&W

https://cadik.posvete.cz/color_to_gray_evaluation/ In image 8 (primary, secondary and tertiary? colors) it is quite surprising how bad "CIE Y" is, compared to most of the others.

You Can't Have it Both Ways

Nice Milky Way:- my taste would be a big crop off the bottom leaving a 5:4 image less over-powered by the bright blue water.
