Dead Poets

The theme of last night's concert at my granddaughters High School was "dead Poets" They saw fit to turn off all the auditorium lights, and only a few lights to help the orchestra see the music. I took advantage of this for the few shots shown here.

This is not my venue and I am virtually shooting in the dark with respect to capture and processing so I would like to hear your opinions on both.

I was using a 100-400 f4.5IS lens on a 5DSR at ISO 12800, 400mm f5.6 1/25 sec hand held for the close up, the others are similar but wider.

These are really great Ben! I think you nailed the processing with the slightly warmer WB. Letting the shadows stay dark is a good choice too.

I am amazed at how sharp these are with you hand holding 400m at 1/25th. That's some great work shooting on your part.

My first thought when I opened the thread... "Oooh!". Lovely images that really capture the mood. I love the expressions on their faces.

Nicely captured. We do have image stabilization on the 100-400mm series lenses but even still 1/25s is really slow for handheld.

Thanks Jim, all those years doing birds paid off. Glad you like the WB, I was afraid I might be too warm here, but it just seemed to work.

They are really concentrating. They were also very good.

Thanks Alan, I have several that are not as sharp, I always take several just in case, but I wanted to time the expressions.

I have no idea who these girls are, it was so dark I never saw my granddaughter who was in the choir and had no lights. But these girls were so pretty and dedicated to the music that I simply had to catch them.

These are sure good. How wonderful to capture these memories. Perhaps share them with your granddaughter and she can share them with her friends?

Thanks, I have shared them with her and since she is in the choir rather than the orchestra says she does not know them, but will try to let them know.
