Wow.

Didn't expect this.

Dear readers,

After nearly 25 years of operation, DPReview will be closing in the near future. This difficult decision is part of the annual operating plan review that our parent company shared earlier this year.

The site will remain active until April 10, and the editorial team is still working on reviews and looking forward to delivering some of our best-ever content.

Everyone on our staff was a reader and fan of DPReview before working here, and we’re grateful for the communities that formed around the site.

Thank you for your support over the years, and we hope you’ll join us in the coming weeks as we celebrate this journey.

Sincerely,

Scott Everett

Hey Matti,

Thanks for that shocking news. Oliver had sent me a message about it just a little bit ago. It's really sad to see them closing their doors. From the gist of it, Amazon had bought them at some point, I didn't know that.

There was a company that tried to purchase FocalWorld about 2 years ago, and I turned down their offers as I really like the independence we have as a community.

Back to DPReview, they have been one of the heavy hitters in the photography business, they will be sorely missed.

I want to ask anyone here that is on DPReview, to pass the word along, that FocalWorld is here for their members. We can't replace DPReview, but perhaps we can offer these other fellow photographers an option as to where they can share their photos.

*** Note - For those of you who are able to invite DPReview members here, I have just created a Temporary Special User Upgrade just for DPReview Members. Please share that with them. It is the normal Premium Upgrade that costs $15 on special for DPReview Members for only $5 a year now.

JimFox....as a refugee from DPR I'd like to personally thank you for your invitation to join Focal World. The part that hurts the most with their decision to close DPR is that I made so many friends there; most of whom I'll lose contact with. I'm looking forward to being a part of this forum and send a hearty 'Hello!'

Hey Al, it's awesome to have you join us here. FocalWorld is really a great little community. We are small enough that everyone gets to feel like they are family, which I think is great.

If you are able, invite some of your friends here, even just a couple of them will help to make this feel a little more like home.

As many here probably know, DPR came back to life, having been bought by a sporting goods Co.

But lately they've started a campaign against ad-blockers -annoying pop-ups for now and increasing in frequency it seems.

So, in anticipation of 'pay up' or else there ... I'm baack.

Welcome Back! It's great to have you, and hopefully a few more of your friends from DPReview will come back.

I really dislike ads on websites, they really ruin the experience in my mind. I don't mind if a site has just 1 or 2 low key ads, maybe in a banner or something so as to not distract. I toyed a few years ago with going with that approach of just have an ad in the banner, but in the end, the point of FocalWorld isn't to make me or anyone rich, it's just a place where friends can share their photos and have fun while doing it.

It is great to have you back. :)
