Future of DJI drones

There are a lot of (never-ending) threads on this over on the Mavic Pilots forum. The bill passed the US House as appended onto a large defense spending bill but the Senate is writing its own version instead of adopting the House version.

Thanks Murali. I have been following it, but had wanted to bring it up here as it was back in the news with the House passing that bill.

It has me wondering if I need to go out and buy the Mavic 3 Pro now before it's too late? I have the Mini 2, and it's been serving me well. But Alan keeps taking so many awesome photos with his Mavic 3 Pro, it's hard for me to resist the temptation to buy one.

Another example of people in power (somehow) making decisions on topics they have no knowledge or understanding of, based on media hype and fear.

No reason to do a panic purchase quite yet - we still need to see what gets included in the Senate version of the bill. There were a lot of riders that got appended to the House version of the bill that are likely to get dropped in the Senate although a senator from Montana just introduced a version of this there as well.

For a good update please read the article Vic Moss wrote for the Drone Service Providers Association. Vic is actively involved in trying to lobby against this bill.

I don't have time to read the article, I am having to keep my face to the grindstone here with these wedding photos, but it's good to know someone is working on fighting this stupid bill.

Please let me know if there comes a point where I will need to do panic buying.... I won't be able to keep up on it, so I only see what gets dropped into my news feed from time to time. :)

we've got a company called anzu coming in to give us a demo of their product. according to the american born former dji employee who started the company, it will likely make the blue uas list. spoiler alert - it's a dji mavic 3 and (more importantly for my work) mavic 3t in horrifingly green american sheep skin.

even if dji doesn't get banned, we still need something on the blue uas list to be able to purchase aircraft on federal funding. none of the current blue list drones are worth purchasing.

From what I have seen so far you are definitely going to need something besides DJI as first responders. I keep holding out hope the Senate won't include Stefanik's bill as it is currently written on the recreational side of the picture but am not holding my breath :(

i think we're making the switch no matter what the swamp decides. nobody else has put anything out there that comes close to what dji has made. we have a few autel evo 2s and they're nice, but there's always one issue or another with them.

Let us know how the Anzu demo goes. I have seen a few write-ups on what they are doing but haven't heard from anyone who has actually played with one.

For any drone pilots who care about what Rep. Stefanik is trying to do here is a good writeup of her efforts to ban DJI drones - H.R.8416 Drones for First Responders Act. It is anything but confined to first responders. For those who don't know him Vic Moss is one of the leaders in the commercial drone industry with the Drone Service Providers Alliance (DSPA) who is highly active in trying to stop this nonsensical bill.

The Drone for First Responders Act Isn't
