Image was recorder with a Amscope microscope on a vintage AMD K-5 Microprocessor (circa 1996).
Partial lapping of the die almost always produces layers of composite layers of vivid colors, geometry and abstract patterns. One can literall spend hours at a time scanning the landscape of a 5 x 5 mm CPU die chip.

That’s so wild Tom! You had an opportunity that 99.9% of us will never get.

I wondered about the uneven patterns on what is a very precise process, the lapping explains it, I have done some lapping years ago and microscope work but no photography.
