Very nice image, Oliver. These are cumulus clouds, but I think they are altocumulus. They appear smaller because they are higher. The altitude is what determines the "alto' prefix.

So very nice—a beautiful landscape and I’m sure memory as well.Neat subject, I have been gone all week so I am late. But last night while still in the Needles district of Canyonlands NP, I saw and amazing cloud, and grabbed a cell phone shot just for this thread. But alas, IO have no clue how to get the image to my computer, so I will show another from this trip.
This was taken from the Horse Hoof Camp ground which is 10 miles from the Elephant Hill trailhead and a 10 hour drive at my skill level so 1 MPH.
