Panasonic S1R II

From Panasonic: Lumix S1RII

I was hoping to move up to one of the the 60 MP sensors that have been floating around - even though I recognize that going from 45MP to 60MP won't make a big difference in print sizes. I guess the benefit of the approach they've taken (for my work) is that this should have excellent dynamic range and low light performance. Trying to decide if getting this to resolve my frustrations with using the S1R for astro is worth it. $3300 makes it tempting.

Not a bad price considering the competition from Canon and Nikon. The raw focus stacking and pixel shift is a plus as well.

This looks very impressive! In camera focus stacking to a Raw would be really sweet. Better low light performance would be the kicker. I didn't see any Astro images in their article about the S1R II though. So maybe they can send you a camera body to test!

Let us know when you get it, I sure hope it works great at night for you!
I'm already invested in L-mount, so I felt like I had no choice. I like that this gives me access to the latest Sigma lenses that are only offered for Sony and L mounts.

They make L-Mount adapters to the Nikon Z mount. The Nikon Z8 and now the Z6III really rock and I am loving having upgraded to them. :)

An adapter is needed, so that's not ideal. But you could go Nikon Z.

BTW, did you get the Sigma 14mm f1.4? It's in L-Mount.

I already have the f/1.8 in L-mount. As much as I'd love to upgrade I can't see that being worth it. I have a used Panny 18mm f/1.8 arriving tomorrow. I'm expecting that to be fun to pair with this camera.

The 177MP pixel shift RAWs are another selling point for me. I haven't used that often enough on the S1R.

Arrived in Montana on Saturday to find my new body waiting for me. Took an Easter walk with the Panasonic 28-200 lens to try out both camera and lens. This is a nice walk-around setup. That 28-200 is similar in size to a 16-35 f/4 lens. Anyway, here's a first quick snap with this body. We have some good aurora forecasts (including clear skies!) this week so hopefully I'll be able to share a few colorful images from Lake McDonald in a few days.
