Persian Violets

A number of years ago my wife planted some Persian Violets which have some nice purple blooms. The plant is a sort of ground cover plant and it has lived up to that title by covering the ground everywhere it can and then some. In this case it spread right up to the territory of oxalis which is another ground cover species that also likes it here and has gone wild. Oxalis is a common NW species that you can find in the forests just about everywhere on the west side of the Cascades.

That's some beautiful ground cover Alan. Your wife picked well. I like the combination of them in this image.

Thanks Jim - she had no idea how fast and far the violets were going to spread when she planted them. There are a few places in the yard where we have a carpet of purple right now. If the next owner of this house doesn't like the violets I wish them luck in removing them

Nice color for the ground cover. If you think this is invasive try mint :)
Thanks Jameel - we had some catnip which is a member of the mint family but its not doing well against the competing ground covers - these violets, oxalis, and a ground cover strawberry (no fruit).

Gorgeous ground cover. I'm envious of your garden, Alan. Your garden in my yard would be a smorgasbord for the mule deer and javelinas.
Thanks Eric - growing up in AZ followed by decades in Utah I was used to needing to work to make things grow in a garden. Up here you have to beat back things you don't want because everything will grow and spread if you don't. Deer up here are very well fed.
