Redwood Rhodie

Jim was having difficulties with all the colors of rhododendrons blooming in Vancouver the other day so I thought I would post one more familiar to him. This is from the Damnation Creek trail in the Del Norte Redwoods of northern California.

Thanks Ben - they don't really put on a color show quite like the domesticated variants but they are a nice color break in the redwoods.

This is very nice Alan... but now my brain is totally fuzzled.... (I just made up that word, TM pending) I think I need to make a trip back up to the Redwoods so that I can recall in person what real Rhodies look like...

Thanks Jim - I would be willing to wager that botanists would call all of them Real(TM) Rhododendrons

Thanks Jameel - this color rhodie is pretty common all along the Oregon coast and particularly in the Florence area.

Thanks Kurt - good eye on the details. This scene wasn't close at hand and is a crop zoom to isolate the blooms. Topaz Sharpen AI did its best to get the blooms in full focus but this is a web image at best and entirely non-printable.

Thanks Joe - its a beautiful trail although it does drop off sharply the farther you go with the return trip almost entirely uphill.
