There is consensus around Dallas Divide as the best spot around Ridgway to shoot sunrise. What is the 2nd best? Interested in your thoughts. Thanks.

I left you some notes in the CR5 video thread Murali.

But in regards to Dallas Divide. I would not say it's the best spot, it's the easiest spot because it's so easy to get to. Most people will park in the parking lot there and line up and photograph against the fence in the parking lot. Let me suggest that you do that, but that you also from the parking area, walk along the guardrail that leads East (towards Telluride) out of the parking lot. Walk down it a few hundred yards for some even better views that most people don't get because they just stand in the parking lot.

I would say Dallas Divide is a better Sunset then Sunrise spot. But it can be great for either since the range there runs East-West.

One thing to keep in mind, Ralph Lauren owns most of the property there, from CR7 towards Dallas Divide. He has his workers very diligent to keep people off of his property. He tried to actually buy the county roads a few years back as he doesn't want anyone but his rich friends to enjoy those views. His workers have been known to harass photographers that venture off of the road even a few feet. So keep that in mind and know that someone will be watching you when you are on CR7 and CR9. Needless to say Ralph Lauren is not liked by most people that live around there.

Back to your question. Dallas Divide is popular for a reason it is great for sure, and I photograph from there all throughout the year. It will be packed in the fall, but the rest of the year I am usually the only person there.

My 2nd favorite, and which I think has better photos is CR7. But it's a bit of a drive, not too bad, but it's a bit of a drive. So, CR7 is my favorite road there, but I probably spend more time at Dallas Divide. If that makes sense.
