Seasons are changing ...

We have had two small snow storms here in the north east over the last several days . Early season storms here are always pretty because we either have a hint of the fall still showing or the water has not frozen over and you still get a nice reflective surface. The Tree Portrait (first image) was one I have been waiting on for several years now and conditions were just right this time around. The other images are of some go to spots for these conditions. I hope everybody is enjoying the holiday season !

I like the first one and the sharp reflections in the second one beg for a lingering viewing but for some reason it's the last one that keeps me looking longer. I like that big tree out in the water and the cattails are a nice visual lead in to the thin ice just beyond the shore.

Thanks Ben !

Alan, that tree is one of my favorites in the park and that is an area I have shot some of my best images. That tree was the feature of an imaged I had won honorable mention for in the Epsons natures color contest a few years ago and published in Outdoor photographers Magazine. I am always looking for ways to work those catails into an image :) regards, Dean

Wow, I like the elegance of #1, the stark cold in #2 and the reality of #3; all presented with superb detail, composition and light.

Hey Dean,

These are awesome! I wish we had some snow out here to work with, but we don't so I will just have to enjoy your awesome views instead!

#1 is a classic in every sense, what a great way to work the tree. And I am really liking that reflection in #2, the B&W work really shines there.

And it's almost hard to believe #3 and 4 have the same tree. It's amazing how the different angles and season make in how it looks. A really nice comparison.

Thanks for posting these here, I had been enjoying these on FaceBook, but I will say they look so much better here! :)

Ahh - I remember that one from a thread a while back. And it's a great shot.

Great winter series, Dean. I'm so grateful you introduced me to Harriman in October (and the tree and the lilly pads and the cat-tails). Loving these winter scenes.
