Sedona Guide #4: Schnebly Hill.

This is one of the roughest rides around Sedona. The road is paved a short way up the hill where there is a pullout overlooking Sedona. From that point on, however, there is hell to pay unless you have a high clearance 4WD vehicle. Pink Jeep Tours wants to keep this road impassable in order to keep their revenue up and they seem to have a lot of power in Sedona. If you can make it up the hill there are some great areas to photograph: Mitten Ridge, The Cow Patties, The Merry-Go-Round and other unnamed places.

This spectacular image by Guy Schmickle was taken from a viewpoint along this road. Those rounded foreground rocks are the Cow Patties.

Unfortunately the front Agave in this image has bloomed and died.

The locations for the images below can be seen as you drive along the road. If there is a heavy snowfall the Forest Service will close the road making these areas inaccessible.

That image was taken at the Cow Patties. You can see it in Guy’s first image on the right side where the rounded rocks with water on the surface are.

You can get up there in an SUV with high clearance and good tires. There is a pullout on the right and an easy path down to the Cowpatties.
