For the Christmas Edition of Winged Wednesday, I’ll share some Holiday Cards featuring Colorful birds from my state of Arizona and my favorite quote; “live, love, laugh, and be happy; from the song “When the Red, Red Robin Comes Bob, Bob, Bobbin' Along.” by Al Jolson.

I want to wish you a Merry Christmas from the bottom of my heart. (Feliz Navidad, José Feliciano)

Happy Holidays, Peace and Love

PS, Next week I'll contribute my favorite photos of 2023. I hope to see yours too.

Late arrivals. Despite my Northerly location this is a overwintering location for many species from the Arctic. The nearby Solway Firth has extensive mudflats and becomes the home for many thousands of visiting birds, mostly geese and swans from Svalbard and Iceland. The North Atlantic drift means that coastal locations are seldom frosted and the temperatures are many degrees warmer than locations of similar latitude in Northern Europe (Moscow) or North America ( Labrador Coast). Most of the Whooper Swans, Barnacle and Greylag Geese are here but this flight of geese flew overhead recently. Ken

My wings for today are some Cormorants lurking on a floating log in the Siuslaw River at the port in Florence Oregon. Drying off after their dining dives in the river.

The first time I saw cormorants, my friend called them crows. I thought to myself, "the crow that thinks he's a cormorant will most likely drown." Superb photo
Preflight Instructions: A juvenile blue heron showing off for his siblings in preparation for his maiden flight. He left the nest later that day! ;)

Super series, Larry!!!

That brings back memories from my childhood, Ken. When I was a kid Canada Geese used to fly over going south to winter in southern Illinois. It wasn't very common then but now they are all over the place in even northern Illinois. They love the golf courses and ponds there.
