That is a great-looking image, Michael. The triangular shape is due to joints, which are cracks in the rock formed by the stresses the rock is subjected to as it is uplifted. You see a lot of those kinds of shapes in the sandstones around the Coyote Buttes area. I wish I had taken this image...
