Thursday’s Task

I have found images taken within 10 paces of a road. I have a friend who called these "Cavalier" shots because she could take them standing beside her car a Vauxhall (A British offshoot of GM) Cavalier. All from Scotland

Ken, I love the story and I love these images. They are so beautiful and well composed. I cannot choose a favorite—and that is a compliment! Thank you so much for sharing each of these gorgeous images.

Nice graphic introduction as usual John. I expanded your "Roadside attractions" to include "Trailside Attractions" so I could use images from various bicycle trips my wife and I have done over the years. Often, when on a cycling tour something makes you stop and snap a picture. This seems easier when travelling at cycling speeds rather than in a car at highway speeds.

I tried to pick captures taken right on or next to the road and had to be picky about what I chose since I take shot like this a lot.

The Strawberry Mountains in eastern Oregon:

The view from Cape Horn in the Columbia River Gorge:

A roadside view of the Yakima River Canyon:

In this case the attraction is the road itself. My favorite curvy highway - UT12 on a stretch called the Hogback:

This image of Panamint Valley in Death Valley National Park was taken from the highway shoulder a few years ago.

Michael, this is a truly wonderful landscape in all respects. I love this image for the transparent water in the foreground revealing the lake bed beneath and especially the reflection of the mountains beyond. Very nice and thank you for sharing this special “roadside attraction.”

Trent, love the range of images captured via a slower mode of transportation! I especially favor the Netherlands windmills and the Swiss sailboats images. Very nice and my favorites! I like the unusual raindrops appearing on the spider web with the blurred cow pasture background––great capture. I like the humorous slant of the eyeglass frame and nose image as well as the French sculpture of the ladies gossiping! I really appreciate you sharing these two images. Also thank you for you kind words about the Thursday Task graphics too.

Alan, great images all––as usual! I love the Strawberry Mountains image, a truly beautiful landscape captured. The Cape Horn image is very well composed with all the many layers. I also like the limited color palette. The "Hogback" curvy road is truly worth capturing and sharing too. Nice. The Watchman image is so well captured and composed––truly beautiful. Very nice. I like the Yakima River Canyon image. Nice. Thors Well is another special image, good shutter speed and composition––another favorite, Thank you for sharing all these great images!

Jameel, very beautiful “roadside” images you shared—and thank you for doing so! It’s great the inclusion of the roads does not detract from Mt. Hood and Alberta ice field images—both are very nice. I love the Big Sur image—a truly beautiful capture. The Oregon sunset is gorgeous—a worthwhile stop for sure! And last, but certainly not least (as they say), the rainbow capture in Bend was truly a roadside stop—with purpose! It’s a perfect capture…in the best sense of the word. Very, very nice!
