I was at the Bisti Badlands in April for this photo. As soon as the sun set below the rocks it cooled down very fast and I was freezing by the time I got back to my truck. But the clouds cooperated that day and didn't completely fill the sky till it got dark.
Navigating the Bisti in the dark on a moonless night can be an interesting challenge. Easy to get back to the parking area since you just go downstream until you get to the fence but getting to formations like this one in complete darkness gets messy.
Thanks Alan. Luckily, many of the more popular formations at the Bisti have been mapped on GPS making getting around easy. But I like just wandering around and seeing where I end up. As you said, follow the wash and you won't get lost.
Love the Warm/Cool combo! That's such a fun place, I need to get back there. But the more I travel, the more I realize there is just so many awesome places in the Western half of the US, it's hard to fit them all into a schedule each year.
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
