WELCOME TO OUR 2025 DEATH VALLEY PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP – THE LAST ONE EVER IN DEATH VALLEY |Death Valley, the heart of the desert, with its huge variety of iconic, spectacular landscapes concentrated in a single Park is one of my favourite destinations on the planet. Where else could you find...
Hey everyone! I just got back from over two weeks in the US leading Workshops, a week in Death Valley and one around the Southwest, and while I don't have any new images done yet, since I used my Phase One IQ4 Achromatic back pretty much exclusively during the trip, I got inspired to share some...

WELCOME TO OUR DEATH VALLEY PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP | Death Valley, the heart of the desert, with its huge variety of iconic, spectacular landscapes concentrated in a relatively small area is one of my favourite destinations on the planet. I started exploring and photographing Death Valley in 2010...
From a month ago as I made my Milky Way rounds from Colorado to California. This was my stop in Death Valley, at Artist Palette Overlook. I know it doesn't get a lot of traffic there at night being a long one way road, and I also liked the variety of colors in the ground. The pinks got lost a...
This was the sunset from Artist Palette Overlook in Death Valley National Park about a week ago. It's my opening sequence to the Milky Way timelapse that can be seen here. Both Sides of the Milky Way | Focal World

Can you spot the North Star, Polaris?
By aiming North you can see both the backside of the Milky Way (early in the Timelapse) and then the frontside we are used to seeing, later in the Timelapse.
Taken at Artists Palette in Death Valley National Park in April.

I was in Death Valley yesterday (Sunday) to capture the Milky Way. I chose the Artist Palette Overlook as my area to set up. There were afternoon clouds that were forecast to clear up after sunset. So I hoped they hung around, and they did.
Not nuclear colors, but solid sunset colors.

This is from last year, a timelapse I hadn't assembled. In this case the camera was pointing West, so there is no Milky Way, but I find the stars can be just as much fun to watch.
There is a bit of flicker towards the beginning which I don't like, but it's over fast. I was shooting in complete...
In Death Valley a few weeks ago, while I had 1 camera pointed West doing a timelapse and I had 1 camera pointed East doing a timelapse, I also had 1 camera pointed up at the sky doing a timelapse. This is from the one pointed up.
I started this one later, so it's only got 500 some frames in it...
Airglow was invading the night skies on this night. Much like in my previous timelapse looking to the West, the airglow just went a bit psycho. I now not many will like this, but airglow is real, and this is what it looks like. I remember the first time I came across it years ago when I saw...
Well, actually I guess it was the sky and not the stars, and actually it went more psychedelic and not psycho... But once I titled the timelapse and had uploaded it to YouTube, I wasn't going to modify it since it takes too long. :)
So this was from just leaving Furnace Creek to the North in...
This is from Death Valley National Park. It's a bit out of the way, but it's a super cool area. It could be an area I could shoot with stars if I could time it right with the moon light.

This is from the location of the original Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley National Park. This is from about a week ago and I had to deal with the same issue Ben had with no moon to light up the ground layer. The light pollution you will see comes Furnace Creek. Part of the reason I picked this...
This is from Badwater in Death Valley from a few days back. I wanted to find a place where I could get people movement and I thought about the main parking area at Badwater.
This was shot at 3 second intervals for the main shots. My second camera was set up at 2 second intervals so I could see...
Like I said in a posting in the Landscape forum, Artist's Drive/Pallet doesn't get interesting for me until after sunset, at least in color. I did manage to get a couple of images before that though that I like in B&W.
My wife and I arrived at Artist's Pallet for sunset. I walked around in the area to the south, but wasn't psyched about any of my shots, it all looked too uniformly yellow/brown. It wasn't until after the Pallet went into shade that things got interesting. It was also quite nice to have the...
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
