We've stopped for the night a couple times at this little ID state park on our way back from SLC. It isn't too far off the freeway and has a nice little campground. I got up in the dark and had the dunes to myself this morning.
My wife and I braved the 10 miles of washboard in our new truck camper rig to finally get into Eureka Dunes. It was skull rattling, but doesn't actually require too high clearance or 4x4, just patience. The good part of the bad road is that it puts off many people - there were only 2 other...
This is from late summer last year out in the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado. I wanted to shoot the dunes, but I was really on the look out for a lonely flower or two. I didn't get very far up into the dunes, maybe halfway when I came across this guy. So I stopped here and since it was close to...
This just showed up on my computer desktop (as my wallpaper shuffles) and figured I'd share it. Taken during a nice morning at the Death Valley dunes after the sunrise burn faded. Still got some nice sidelight on the sand.
Any thoughts are welcome.
Last month in between shooting wildflowers I was at my son's house by Santa Fe helping to build a wall to divide one of the rooms. I took an overnight break to run up to the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado to meet up with Monika and to do some shooting there. That evening it was just too windy to...
I couldn't wait to try to capture my own version of this iconic view of the Vestrahorn. The green grasses on black sand during twilight looked like they were glowing. I added a 2+ minute exposure to streak the clouds and smooth the ocean waters.
This is from a few weeks ago. The winds had been howling for a day or so, which was great for erasing foot prints, but not so great for shooting. But just as I was leaving in the early morning the winds died down for about an hour or so giving just enough time to get out to the farther section...
This is from Mesquite Dunes in Death Valley. While processing this and pondering this, I ended up at a High Key look. It's a bit artsy and I am hoping it takes the Landscape to more of a Fine Art feel.
All comments are welcome, this is a bit of an experiment and may not appeal to everyone.
Jim...
Dusk over Mesquite Dunes, taken in Death Valley during one of my Workshops there last January with a Leica SL, Voigtlander 15mm v. III and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest filters.
Thanks for viewing, best regards

This is one of the rare occasions where I intended this as a black and white photo at the time when I took it. I just liked the tones and textures. This was an OP photo of the day a few years ago.
Any thoughts are welcome.
Again from Dec '08, my first visit to White Sands, with Jim Fox and Allen Maestas.
Three compositions on the same dune, mid-morning light, looking southerly, so the high contrast made black and white a natural choice, I thought.
Hope you enjoy. :)
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
