I had planned this weekend to take advantage of some clear skies and the setting moon to try my hand at some night photography at Lake McDonald. Because the prime view of the lake look in a northerly direction, it is a challenge to get much of the Milky Way into the frame. Earlier this week I...
After several weeks of grey skies and otherwise uninspiring conditions, spring finally hit Western Montana yesterday and I drove into Glacier to celebrate. The Apgar area of Lake McDonald is pretty much the only place you can reach at this point due to road construction, but the lake was...
Here are a couple of images from Lake McDonald taken last night. The light in the first image worked its way along the mountains before eventually turning pink and lighting the peaks.
Any thoughts are welcome.
1) Prior to sunset
2) Pink light
I took this back in March along the shores of a partially frozen Lake McDonald in Glacier. For some reason I've been struggling with wanting to edit photos, but I finally managed to take a shot at this one. Any thoughts are welcome.
I drove out to Lake McDonald last night for sunset. The snow is pretty much gone in the Flathead Valley, but as you head toward Glacier there is still quite a bit. Parts of Lake McDonald are still frozen and there is snow all around the shoreline. I tried a couple of my favorite spots and had...
OK, a little play on words... This was from the same evening as my last photo, but before the clouds really lit up. I did like the light on the mountains, though, and tried a portrait orientation to get some of the colorful rocks into the foreground. This is a focus stack of three images - I...
I drove out to Lake McDonald last night to check out sunset. There was a little more wind than I expected so reflections were out, but there were some pretty cool clouds.
Any thoughts are welcome.
With clear skies, calm winds, and no snow on the roads I decided to visit Lake McDonald last night (or I guess early this morning) for a few shots. In addition to the mountains, stars and like I appear to have gotten some aurora glow as well. Here is my wide (14mm but slightly cropped)...
I made my way back out to Lake McDonald this morning, only to find that the western end of the lake near Apgar village had frozen within the last few weeks. Since temperatures have been near 0° for the last week (and were -20°F this morning) I guess freezing makes sense. So I tried to make use...
Lake McDonald is known for its view of the mountains and colorful rocks, but I like this view looking along the shoreline as well, and have been shooting it in the different seasons. Here is the winter view I captured yesterday along with one from fall (that I've shared before) for reference...
I made a trip into Glacier this morning hoping for a nice sunrise. It was a beautiful calm morning, even though I never did get any color. Here are a couple of images.
1) Blue hour view of the mountains
2) Tighter view a little later
I've been sitting on this image since I got back from Montana, but figured I may as well share it and get some opinions. Even though they never really lit up during sunrise, I really liked the clouds over the mountains to the east. I found these rocks in the foreground and tried to put myself in...
I had some nice calm waters for a sunrise at Lake McDonald, along with some interesting clouds to the east that I was hoping would pick up some color. The mountains were mostly obscured, but I thought the clouds were really interesting. I did get some color to the north, so I tried this...
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
