Early last spring I went to Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval with my husband and a Dutch couple who were visiting us to explore "le Bout du Monde" (the End of the World), the steeply enclosed valley with a plenitude of waterfalls that Terry posted a splendid photo of recently.
That weekend was overcast and...
Two weeks ago as I was heading out of Colorado and driving through the Rockies on the I-70 the storm was breaking up and the sun started to poke through. I am not sure what peak this is, but I know when I saw it while driving I immediately took the next exit to get off the freeway so that I...
I was on a walk near my house when I saw some nice light on Whitehorse Mt. to the north. I hurried home, grabbed my tripod and long lens and got this shot. In this B&W version it's all the other layers that make the final result.
It seems like I may be one of the few climbers participating on this site, and likely the only NW alpinist. What follows is an insight into the hardest part of climbing many peaks of the North Cascades - the off trail approach through brushy complex terrain. Climbers in the Rockies and Sierras...
I got an early start and made it up to the Heybrook Ridge viewpoint well before sunrise to get this shot of one of the most dramatic peaks in Washington.
Unseasonably warm weather wasn't good for our normal x-skiing so my wife and I checked out the snow free, low elevation, Heybrook Ridge trail near the town of Index WA. A very pleasant easy 2 miles through 2nd growth forest leads to a good view of Mt. Index (which was in shade when we got there...
It was a tough drive up a 4x4 road in my little old Subaru Outback, but I made it for some nice morning light (missed sunrise). I did another 5 mile hike hoping to get some other views, but trees got in the way. This is one of my favorite mountains in WA. The north face, in profile here, was the...
These were taken on a trip to AK 12 years ago. I climbed, and attempted to ski, from the summit as a 50th b-day gift to myself. Afterward my wife came up and we rented a car for a two week tour where I shot these when we drove into Wonder Lake.

My wife was quite cooperative posing for me in this dual portrait of her and Mt. Shuksan from near the end of the short and easy Artists Point trail. I had a 55mm on my Sony A7rII so shot this as a pano of 4 verticals. I do wish I had a bit more water at the bottom to balance it. The dusting of...
Note: edited with a new image since I'd forgotten I'd already posted the color version, sorry for any confusion.
I had hiked out to Artists Point near Mt. Shuksan in the middle of the day planning some shots for sunset. This tarn caught my eye as my main location since a few steps the other way...
I got this when my wife and I returned to our van after a short hike near the Mt. Baker ski area (many people who visit think this is Mt. Baker since it dominates the view at the ski area). I barely had time to set up my tripod and attach a 70-200mm lens to my Sony A7rII before the sun was gone.
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
