Late afternoon yesterday I was driving back up Hwy 34 towards Estes Park and ultimately Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) to go trail run up to Gem Lake, a short 2 mile trail one way that is rated as Strenuous so I thought it would make for a great tune up hike. I hadn't been to Gem Lake...
This is Emerald Lake, it's up in Rocky Mountain National Park RMNP over by Bear Lake. It's a pretty short 2+mile but super beautiful hike. There is lot's of great waterfalls and cascades along the way and you pass several lakes on the way up there.
It's really a bit of a hidden jewel for...
Yesterday I had gotten a Reservation to go into RMNP and had an epic day. After 6 miles of trail running, I headed over towards Trail Ridge Road to shoot what looked like it might be a good sunset before shooting the Milky Way with snow field remnants later in the night. Part way up Trail Ridge...
Here is a previous capture of mine taken in nearby Rocky Mountain National Park. This is a location just off the road, shot in May of 2015. The dynamic range was a challenge, so I ended up HDR combining sets of 3 images into a single frame, and then taking 3 of those frames to stitch together...
This is from of my visits to Sky Pond in Rocky Mountain National Park a month or so ago. On this day it was stormy and very windy. This is after the sunset because I really liked how the clouds were looking. There had been some color earlier, and some kind of cool coloring, but this seems just...
Well, not totally at the Ponds edge, but close. Alan had asked if I had taken any shots at Sky Pond down at the pond level. Now I already posted one a week ago showing the reflection of the peaks in the water, that was taken from the waters edge in order to get the peaks in the water for the...
Up at Sky Pond in Rocky Mountain National Park, as sunset approached the clouds were moving fast. The clouds above the sawtooths started to dissipate but a whole new set approached from the other side. This is now looking towards the outlet of Sky Pond and out of view but right below that is...
This was from a month ago in Rocky Mountain National Park, after I got back hiking in the dark from Sky Pond so I could shoot the sunset there, the stars were up and just as I got to the Glacier Gorge Parking lot, the moon was beginning to rise. So I quickly set up to shoot the moon rise because...
At Sky Pond that is. :)
This is from Sky Pond in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado from a month ago. I made 2 trips up there in like 3 days because the first time up was so windy, the lake never calmed down for any reflections. This trip was much better, and I had some cool clouds. The...
Fellow member Dan Drew and myself played hooky from work and headed over to RMNP. We did the classic Trail Ridge Road drive, using Fall River Road on the way up and then coming back via the main road all the way. That also of course meant a mandatory stop at Sagebrush BBQ for the best ribs in CO...
This is from Wednesday in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) in Colorado at Dream Lake. This is the view I had looking to the East, no mountains that way but there was this awesome curving cloud that just never seemed to move. It almost had a Lenticular cloud feel to it. Even before the sun...
This was from yesterday up in the RMNP in Colorado. This is at Dream Lake, it's a little over a mile from Bear Lake and is a snow covered trail. I made it with just ice crampons on my boots but I carried my snow shoes just in case. It was a nice warm 25 degrees, but it had winds of 40 mph...
Another look at Dream Lake up in RMNP. This one I moved west along the lake, there were no more bubbles in the ice, just lots of cracks and misshapen surface to play with. The sun hadn't quite set but was close and was burning through the clouds from behind causing a cool golden glow behind the...
On my recent time in Colorado I hiked several times up to Dream Lake to shoot the sunset with the best ice bubbles I could find. While these are not the cool 3D methane bubbles Kyle shot up in Banff, these are my poor man bubbles. :)
All comments are welcome,
Jim
This is Emerald Lake in Rocky Mountain NP. It was cold with gusty winds and very fast moving clouds. It is a fun cool place to shoot, and one that I plan to get back to and shoot the stars from later.
All thoughts are welcome,
Jim
Here is another angle of those flames in the clouds from Bear Lake in the Rocky Mountain NP. After shooting on the ice a bit, I had seen this cool looking boulder/rock on the edge of the lake, and thought that perhaps it could add some interesting visual interest in the scene. While this angle...
