On the East end of the Badlands Loop Road in Badlands National Park in South Dakota, you start to get these cool pinnacles of rocks that poke up. There is something about them that is captivating to me. This looked nice in color showing off the colors of the different layers, but I thought the...
The Badlands of South Dakota is an area I had heard of for years as a Landscape Photographer, and had been on my wish list for many years. With my daughter moving to Colorado 6 or 7 years ago, I was making frequent trips there and of course photographing along the way. It was 4 years ago I think...
I am going to petition the National Park to change the name of the Badlands of South Dakota to be changed to the Goodlands instead. :)
This is an area I have been visiting once or twice a year for the last few years, and it has always been good to me. :)
It's always nice when the day starts...
A short video of Sunflowers in South Dakota.
This is an amazing field I was just lucky enough to stumble upon while driving through South Dakota.

While driving recently on the I-90 through the middle of South Dakota on my way to Minnesota, I spotted this huge field of sunflowers! That area is one of those with exits only every 5 or 10 miles, so it was quite the detour to get back to it. But turn around I did, and I spent at least an hour...
This is sunset at the Badlands of South Dakota last month. There was a cool layer of clouds in this direction catching the sunset colors that I looked pretty neat. It was a low layer of clouds though, it didn't cover much of the sky and was just along the horizon, so I went with a 16x9 crop to...
From the Badlands in South Dakota a couple of weeks ago I guess now. After sunset as I was heading out of the park, I came across this bighorn sheep that had been standing there. I saw it and thought that looked cool, so I pulled over and grabbed my camera. By then the sheep had laid down to...
In the Badlands of South Dakota I came across this scene after sunrise. I thought it was so cool as I wasn't really thinking fall colors at this point and in that area. So it was an awesome surprise to know that I was getting a few more fall color images to add to this years collection. For...
At the Badlands of South Dakota a week ago I had a really awesome sunrise. I had colors probably in about 180 degrees which is enough to have given me a couple of different compositions to work with. Now this one I liked because the clouds seemed to kind of bridge over the land, and the land...
I got this a week ago in the Badlands of South Dakota. There is an area just before the Badlands when coming in from Wall that is called the Buffalo Grasslands or something like that. Well, there was no Buffalo or Bison there. But the moment we passed the entrance gate to the Badlands then...
A week ago on my way back to Colorado from Minnesota I chose a route that would take me back through the Badlands of South Dakota. While I liked the sunset from the night before, I chose this sunrise from the following morning to process first. I got lot's of great color in the clouds, this set...
From the Badlands in South Dakota. There is just crazy cool textures and features everywhere you look. It's like being in a Candy Store! This was as the sun was setting, and I carefully got up on this little rise.
All comments are welcome,
Jim
During summer vacation last year I took some of the Grandkids up to Mt Rushmore and the Badlands in South Dakota. The grandkids are awesome outdoors, they enjoy exploring and seeing new things. They also are really good at sleeping in with their mom so that I can go out early and shoot sunrises...
