Wind, sand and a twig make for an interesting landscape with the Vestrahorn as a backdrop.

The winds in Stokksnes blow the black sands into ripples and ridges making for interesting compositions.

This image is a nearly 3.5 minute exposure using a 15-stop ND plus a 2 stop grad. I envisioned this image in monochrome from the start but the color version is not too shabby either.

I couldn't wait to try to capture my own version of this iconic view of the Vestrahorn. The green grasses on black sand during twilight looked like they were glowing. I added a 2+ minute exposure to streak the clouds and smooth the ocean waters.

Whether I captured this image well is not the story. The real story is the emotion that I feel when I see this image. Imagine standing here to see this at midnight at the summer solstice without a single person in sight. I felt humbled, small, exhilarated and alive.
