This is from last year in Zion National Park, from the Watchman bridge. It was a really windy evening and night, so the trees and leaves are not well defined. On top of that it was totally dark with no moon, so that valley area along the Virgin river was pitch black. So the end result is a bit...
This one is from Zion and the bridge looking towards the Watchman. Fortunately at 2am in the morning there was no one to kick me off. It was super windy, so the trees and leaves definitely lose definition in this one. I could use a twilight shot with more leaf definition, but I really prefer 1...
From back a few years in the Subway in Zion I was back there with @Bart Carrig. I did a B&W conversion on and old archive shot, so it will be a bit small but it’s all I have for now.

I liked this one from the Subway in Zion National Park. It’s a spot along the creek where the fall leaves were moving and swirling.
This is an archive shot that I converted to B&W today. I apologize for the size as it’s only 600pix high, but that’s how tall I made them back in the old days.

I got this a few years ago on a spring break trip to Zion. It was sleeting most of the day, so we were "car hiking" up the canyon. I had my tripod set-up on my seat in front of me and shot through the window at the walls after my wife stopped at a pull out.
Here's a shot from just outside of Zion, looking toward the canyon as a summer storm was approaching. I was rushing to find compositions with the warm light from the setting sun and the incoming clouds. This is one of those photos that I've always liked more than other people do. Thoughts?
From Zion Narrows a few years back. This is one of the few where I actually include some people, I liked how the hikers were crossing the Narrows here and it looked like they were headed into the unknown with that darkness of the shadows.

Seeing this yellow tree growing out of the rock wall in the Narrows, I knew I had to stop for a shot. I didn't have any particularly long lenses with me so I did the best I could with my 24-105 to isolate it.
Any thoughts are welcome
And here's the last in my series of B&W photos from 2017. This was taken at the end of October in Zion's Narrows. I figured the various textures would render nicely in B&W.
Any thoughts are welcome.
What's my favorite way to avoid crowds and boring blue skies at a popular icon? Shoot it by the light of the moon. Here's the view from the bridge in Zion lit by a quarter Moon.
Any thoughts are welcome.
Like most others that have visited Zion, I've stopped at the Canyon Junction bridge many times to take in the view and take some shots of the Watchman. On this trip I avoided the sunset crowds, but after shooting sunrise at the Canyon Overlook I stopped here, intrigued by the soft light. The...
Here are some shots from my trek through the Narrows in Zion 10 days ago. Awesome hike if you've never done it, but I was really thankful to get back on solid, dry land when I was done. We definitely had some nice fall color, so I've included some focusing on the water and walls and a couple...
I've had a chance to process some more images from my hike to the Subway in Zion a week ago, so here are some favorites with a few different compositions. The light was beautiful, giving me a nice glow in the "tube" and there was some good fall color above the Subway that I wanted to include...
While hiking the Narrows on Zion I had to stop and capture these trees against the canyon wall with the water flowing through the foreground. The biggest challenge was getting a clear view between hikers (cloned out a couple...).
Any thoughts are welcome.
Here are a few compositions of Archangel Falls near the Subway in Zion National Park. I was definitely looking forward to shooting this with some autumn colors so I stopped here both coming and going. The first two are landscape and portrait optios of the more classic view. The last is an...
Sunrise on Monday at Zion's Canon View Overlook. Our bluebird skies were great for exploring canyons over the weekend, but it was nice to be blessed with some clouds for sunrise on our last morning.
Any thoughts are welcome.
This was taken on Saturday in my first visit to the Narrows in Zion. It was a beautiful day and a gorgeous hike. I'll have plenty more to share when I get a chance to do some serious processing.
Any thoughts are welcome.
There is an issue with Uploading Photos (attachjments). I am not sure what the problem is, and I am looking into it. You can still try to Create your Threads and Upload your Photos, but it is hanging up during the Upload.
