Maybe one in a hundred times that I go birding do all the stars align and I see the bird I was after, it cooperates, the light is good and my camera was set up correctly. This happened yesterday as I was walking through the Slocan Campground while visiting my daughter in Slocan B.C.
An American Dipper was busy foraging for larvae, small insects and fish in the freezing waters of Springer Creek where I am visiting my daughter.
The story goes they got their name from the dipping manoeuvre where they constantly dip their pointy little tail up and down as they whisper under their breath with each dip ‘Oh that’s cold’, ‘Oh that’s cold’.
Overall view of Springer Creek.
A short video to show how this little bird can handle freezing cold, fast flowing water.
