A few flowers

Testing out lenses, I often check semi-macro ability and close up rendering by taking some flower pics. Sometimes, I even like the pictures! Here are a few recent ones. I don't know if folks care about what lenses are used on threads here. I tend to be a gear head, so happy to post the info if anyone is interested...

Last one for me - I like the three flower arrangement with the water droplets.

The last 2 are my favorites. Yeah, there is something about water drops on flowers that are just cool. With #1, I think if it actually had more DOF, so that the flower in the upper right was not quite so much OOF. If it showed just a bit more detail, I think it would work better.

And yeah, at least when it comes to macro shots (close up) like these, I think it's interesting to know what lens was used. Not sure why exactly, because with landscape images I usually don't care what lens or camera was used. But for these closeups, for some reason at least myself, I am always interesting in the lens used.

Hi Jim,

First, ironically, the first image was a focus stack! I would have to look, but I think I combined about 6-8 images to make that one. The lens was the Voigtlander 65/2 apo-lanthar on the A7RII body. I did shoot at F2 to try to preserve more smoothness in the background while getting enough depth of field for the flower and leaves. The flower in the upper right was distant in macro terms, but perhaps I was too aggressive in retaining that blurred background. Been learning (and loving) the Voigtlander 65. I have much to learn, but that is what makes this hobby fun eh?

Same lens (CV 65/2) on #3 and 4. #2 was with the Sony GM 100/2.8 STF I think with the Canon 500D close up lens. The Gaussian blur is a lens trait that some love and some hate. It is a sharp and well corrected lens whatever one thinks about its bokeh.

Thanks for the kind words. I too like water droplets on flowers. I added none, however. #3 was from a recent rain and #4 was near a waterfall thatnthrows a constant mist.

These are all lovely but I prefer the last one. First of all, my favourite colour and second of all love the composition. Not being critical but on my monitor the first one looks a little soft. Do I need my eyes to be checked?

Thanks for the kind words. As for your eyes, they appear to be better than mine since I let a soft image get posted! Sorry about that. It was a day where the wind was blowing and I did several focus stacks and rejected some out of hand. This one I liked the composition and I evidently ignored that likely some movement made the combination of the images come out soft when I stacked them. Sigh. Will try to look more carefully next time!
