A Grand Thunderstorm!

I have posted a few individual lightning shots. This is a timelapse from that evening. There is a couple of small hiccups in the timelapse, but overall I think it turned out really well.

The images were either 2 or 3 seconds, with varying ISO's. I shot this in manual with a goal of keeping the histogram at 50% so that when the lightning hit, it wouldn't blow out the highlights beyond recovery. Since I started shooting at sunset and then shot until well into the night, I would have to check and change the exposure every 15 minutes or so. While Shutter Priority (to keep a consistent speed for the timelapse) would have worked to automatically adjust the exposure as it got darker, it's problem would have been the lightning strikes and would have caused uneven exposures. Next time I just need to be quicker with my adjustments, especially with fast moving clouds.

Jim, this really shows the dynamics of the thunder clouds. Love it.
