A View from Steptoe

A view looking north from Steptoe Butte in Washington's Palouse. Single shot pano crop from a visit in early May several years back. Lots of plowing activity leaves the air a bit on the dusty side that time of year. Through the course of the day it gets notably worse and you can watch the dust getting kicked up by the tractors in most directions from the top of Steptoe Butte.

That's a really cool image Alan. I have only photographed there once, I should get back again.
Thanks Jim - definitely a fun place for endless rolling hills. I think early May wasn't the best time to visit with all of the planting activity kicking up the dust but June should be less tilling and more greens.

Hi Alan, thanks for sharing this beautiful image of the Palouse area. This is the first image I have seen with the beautiful muted colors and I love it! ;)

Thanks Larry - normally the colors are less muted than this but dozens of farmers tilling their fields were kicking up a lot of dust. The day started out relatively clear but as I looked out from the top of the butte you could see clouds of dust behind their tractors in all directions. By afternoon sweeping views were no longer possible at all.

Classic Palouse. The soft look to this image really works. I am looking forward to my visit there early April.
Thanks Jameel - and I am looking forward to seeing what you get flying your drone in that area. My luck so far on getting good greens on the rolling hills hasn't been stellar so far with one visit in the fall and the one above in early May. A lot of the fields were brown from fresh tilling during my May visit. The shot above was cropped to get a mostly green look.
