A Wanna Be Infrared Image from Fall

I realized I missed processing all of my Minnesota Fall Color photos from last year.... all of them. :( So now I am digging through them quickly to get them added into my year end Best Photos of 2025.

I captured this from a fire tower in Mille Lacs Kathio State Park in Minnesota. So it allowed me a drone view without using a drone. While processing it, I was in ACR and accidently slid the Yellow Saturation slider all the way to left and was immediately struck by how this had a bit of an Infrared feel to it. My goal was I was going to work the huge area of green trees a bit to help isolate the few maples that had turned color before the rest already.

So this may not appeal to everyone, but I like the look.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

An interesting result - I like how the fall colors are below the crown of the taller grayish trees. It almost looks like the glow of a fire below the overriding canopy. A fun processing accident.

Thanks Alan. Yeah, it was interesting to see that pocket of fall color.

What I like about the result, is if I didn't mention this was a wanna be IR image, I don't think most people would think twice about the coloring in this. It just looks in a way like dull leaves?

Interesting result from your 'accident'. The sky doesn't add anything to this image and could be worth cropping.

We have a resident example of dull leaves up here - Alders. They turn a sickly light green and then fall off. The difference is that they are a small tree compared to the firs and spruce trees unlike your scene from Minnesota with no evergreens in sight.

Thanks Jameel it's good to have accidents like this. :)

As to the sky, I actually had the exact same thought, primarily because that sliver of lake at the top bugged me slightly. But when I tried it, the image felt like it was missing something to me.
