Akebono Tulip

A number of years ago my wife (the gardener) bought a fancy hybrid tulip from Japan called Akebono (Japanese for Dawn). They are described as a Darwin hybrid tulip with large semi-double blooms and are supposed to be grown in full sun. In our case they are planted in a shady area so they are frequently a bit shy and only open fully on bright sunny days. Yesterday was cloudy all day so this particular bloom was being a bit shy for its portrait.

C&C always welcome.

Shy is cool too! I really like how this looks.

And that's so neat getting a tulip from Japan!
Thanks Jim - I liked the view this one presented without being open. This variety of tulips was bred in Japan but the bulb company Nancy bought them from is based in the U.S.

The soft light is perfect here as is the sharpness. But the lipstick steals the show! 😁
Thanks Michael - still chuckling over the lipstick ascription for the red rim of the petals but it really fits. The red shows up better with the bloom closed in the shade.
