American Basin Columbine

I was gone for a few days as I took my oldest granddaughter up to American Basin in SW Colorado, I just got back yesterday. We camped and hiked at around 12,000 feet, she had a blast. We were able to capture some great wildflowers as the wildflowers are in a mega bloom there! It is the best I have seen there, or at least equal to the best I have seen there. So it was awesome.

There is a hillside there that gets carpeted in Columbine, it's an amazing sight. This is one of the ones I shot earlier in the morning while it was still in shade.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

This is a nice one - not color combinations I see in my backyard variants. Definitely better to catch them in the shade for closeups.
Thanks Alan. This is the only color they are in SW Colorado. Are the variants natural, or from man?

The variants in my yard are the result of human intervention. I have seen yellow Columbines in the ponderosa forests of Arizona near Payson back in the 1960's.
