"Aqua Waves"

Aqua Building ~ Chicago, Illinois ~ USA

The Aqua building is a 82 story mixed use residential skyscraper in downtown Chicago. The design team was led by Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang Architects. The building has a really interesting and unique design. The patios have a wave shape that makes the building look like it is a series of waves. At the right time of day, the sun is rim lighting the front edge of the patios and the underneath side is in shadow. This image is looking at some of those patio shapes at that rim lighting time of day.

Are the ledges purely decorative or can the residents use all of the space as a balcony? Really a spacey design from a view like yours here.

This is so cool looking! I am thinking that I need to move to Chicago and buy a unit in that building.

Alan - There are patios or balconies on those wave ledges that are part of the residential units. You should have seen my group of photographers. We were getting close to the building to shoot up for this angle. One guy went into the cement meridian of the street and laid down flat on his back underneath his tripod to shoot the up angle on this building.

You can read more about the building and see a few more images here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aqua_(skyscraper)
