Hey Ken,

Don't use the Long Exposure NR. I am not sure what camera you have, but none of the newer cameras need it. Most newer cameras have a method of mapping out hot pixels, that's the main reason for using it.

And yeah, it's amazing just how fast the Auroras can change. You got some really good images from it. I agree with Kyle, #3 is my favorite.

Jim I started using it many years ago and found that it not only got rid of hot pixels, I didn't find them a problem, but it also reduced thermally generated noise as opposed to the usual noise generated by the randomness of light production. I will need to revisit this as modern AI noise reduction probably does a better job than the "dark frame" long exposure noise reduction. Easy to check. Ken

I also used to use it years ago, unless I was doing timelapses, when the 20 to 30 second gap between frames would make images jump. But when I was shooting individual frames of a Milky Way or whatever, I did also turn on the in camera NR. But I don't anymore. It will be interesting to see what you think when you test it out.

Nice set Ken, the 1st and 3rd stand out for the composition.

I experimented with LENR and found it useful especially with higher ISO images. Doing the same image with this on and off and using noise reduction in post, I found the one with the setting on to be cleaner. Yes this would not work with shooting for timelapse.
