Canadian Rockies with an iPhone XR

I took the image below with an iPhone XR in 2023. It was looking somewhat ominous in my location, so I just wanted to get a quick image. Setting up with my regular equipment for a panorama would take too long. I knew it wasn't going to be a high-quality image, but at least I would have some kind of image to remember the occasion. Reviewing this image recently convinced me that I needed to upgrade to an iPhone 16 PRO for these types of situations. Here is the image I wish was much higher quality.

Jaw dropping atmospherics - glad you yanked your iPhone out to grab the shot. There are times when having a camera in your pocket that you can just grab and shoot is priceless. This is one of them.

Looks nice Doug. Is this cropped or stitched pano?

A newer phone will also give you raw (apples version which is still quite cooked) which allows more post processing latitude.

Yep.... an iPhone XR photo compared to the iPhone 16 Pro is like comparing our old Nikon D70's to the Nikon Z8.... :)

That's a great image to remember that moment by. It's very ominous looking. I have found sometimes it's very difficult to duplicate the look from the iPhone with my regular photo.

Thanks so much, Alan. I am still kicking myself in the butt for whiffing on this image.

I took this in pano mode, so I just moved from left to right to get the panorama. Thanks for your comments, Jameel.

Shortly after I took this image it started pouring. I'm looking forward to seeing the images from the iPhone 16 PRO. Thanks for your comments, Jim.
