Jamie Russell is a friend with an unusual ability to create carved objects with exquisite lines and curves. His reference is almost always from nature and often involves skulls from real or imagined animals.
I took some images for him today as he is submitting to a craft show.
I thought Focal World members might enjoy a look as well.

Skull approx. 24" long.

That is some seriously impressive carving work. I don't want to know what those pieces would cost to acquire 'cuz it's far above my pay grade.

Great job of capturing these works - the lighting is flawless.

Wow!!! Great job capturing these Trent! Capturing still objects is much harder then it seems and you have it down perfectly!

And what amazing carvings! Each one is a masterpiece. I think my favorites are #2, 3 and 5. And I have no clue how a table like that is even possible! It seems like it would be impossible to make.

I love to experiment with lighting and I'd place your lighting and the photography for these right up with the best! The subject matter is not easy to capture to show the tones and the complex shapes. I'd guess you used a single umbrella/softbox or diffusion screen to get the soft lighting.

Thanks Des. Yes a single continuous source LED light in a softbox above the object.
