Hey Everyone!

Here is to wishing everyone here and your families a safe and fun 2021. :)

We have a long way to go with this pandemic we are in, but perhaps we are close now with these vaccines to turning the corner. I sure hope so.

I hope that everyone continues to be able to photograph wisely and safely. I know I have had to skip meeting a few of you this year just to be safe. But hopefully in the 2nd half of 2021 we can have more meetups and get togethers.

Despite the pandemic in 2020, there has been some incredible photos being posted and shared here at FocalWorld. While we will always have some awesome Landscape and Wildlife photos posted here, in 2021 I see a lot more Astrophotography, Infrared and Timelapse being shared here. Although the majority of us are Landscape Photographers by nature (pun intended) It's been my desire and hope that FocalWorld would grow beyond that. So it's really awesome to see all of the contributions in the other sub-forums.

I just started doing Astrophotography in 2020 with the most basic of mounts. I have been inspired by @Mike Lewis, @Colorado CJ, and now @chuckp. They have really given me something to shoot for as I do more capturing of the night sky. If you have been interesting in Deep Space, I encourage you to ask some questions and jump on in, it's really so much fun.

Then @Amy Nelson has been inspiring me with her IR (Infrared) photography for quite a while. As anyone who has seen her work, it's stunning. Recently Sonny @sweetgrass had a camera converted so he can shoot IR also, and I have been shooting for a while with a 720nm filter I use on my lenses. But I have finally decided on which camera I will convert to IR so I can do it without having to use a 10 stop IR filter. So I hope to be doing more of that also.

And then recently, if you guys have been following along in the forums here, you know @Ben Egbert and I have been playing around and trying to figure out Timelapse photography. I encourage you to join in with us as we both learn and have fun.

Finally, since I didn't post during December for Gift giving towards FocalWorld, I will mention it briefly here. I am sure you all know FocalWorld isn't about making money for me or anyone else, FocalWorld is a project of Love and my only hope is that we are able to support it to cover it's costs of operating. If any of you feel the desire to support financially (and many of you already do), you can do that. Just simply click on your name and Avatar in the Upper Right. A pulldown menu will show, in the 2nd column click on Account Upgrades. On that menu, simply choose which upgrade based on how much you want to give. The system will walk you through the rest.

Thank you to any who choose to support FocalWorld Financially. And if you can't at this time, it's totally fine also as again, it's not about the money here, it's about our love for photography. :)

Thanks again to everyone! To the staff and everyone else who helps make FocalWorld the friendliest and most helpful community of photographers in the world. :)

Happy New Year FW Folks!

An awful year in general, but a great astrophotography year, and picking up for regular photography too. Hoping to get out a lot more at some point in 2021. Lots to learn from everyone - great to have @chuckp as our latest excellent astro forum supporter, and in general it's great to see more posts in there now from a number of our members like @Tom Narwid, as one exciting example. I have started to dabble in time-lapse too, I will definitely have to connect with Jim and Ben about that!

Getting to know my R5 better, and starting to dabble in wildlife a little more as well, although I have quite a ways to go in that genre before I can get results that are decent.
