I’m Going Bald

I went for a drive on random dirt roads yesterday in the Eastern Sierra and ended up on Bald Mountain Lookout, a hilltop at 9100 feet that provides astonishing views in all directions. The Mono Craters are visible in the right side of the image, Obsidian Dome and Wilson Butte are in the center, and Mono Lake is off the right side. Taken with the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

That's very cool Micheal. I don't get to spend as much time as I used to in the Eastern Sierra, it's places like this that I miss a lot.

You have quite the view from here. Any updates on the fire that's north of Mono Lake?

Great view from up there. I like the nice rays off of the patchy sunshine. Wasn't there a lot of smoke from the Inn fire near US395?

We don't get a lot of views like this from mountains in the Coast Range since the top is covered with trees.

Thank you. I didn't see any smoke whatsoever from the Inn Fire. It doesn't appear that the fire has grown much since Thursday night after it jumped U.S. 395. On one side it's blocked by the shores of Mono Lake and the other is a steep slope of the Sierra near another burn scar. The wind has died down and there were some patches of rain in the area yesterday, although I did hear thunder close by on that hilltop but no lightning. It's 15% contained as of this afternoon.

Inciweb says that the fire is only creeping and smoldering now. https://inciweb.wildfire.gov/incide...re-2025/inn-fire-update-may-25-202505-25-2025

Hi Michael, that's great to hear, I sure hope the fire would be put out soon, on the news it seemed very bad.

Love the photo.
