Lofoten Aurora

Hamnøy is the location of Lofoten's most famous postcard view, with iconic red "rorbuer" fishing huts in front of a towering mountain. I spent 5 nights in one of the huts and many hours on the neighboring bridge hoping to catch some green in the sky. We had one night with just a hint of aurora and I was afraid that was the best I was going to get. The next night was better and the aurora appeared almost like a rainbow over the scene. I caught a shooting star as well. The last night, though, was the best as the whole frame filled with streaming green light. Here are my favorites (so far) from those last two nights.

2) Rainbow aurora and shooting star

Awesome pair of images with the first one drawing my eyes back for more. Beautiful scene made all the more interesting with the inclusion of the aurora.

These are really awesome Kyle!

That's so neat that you guys stayed right there. That would be the way to go.

The vibrance of the green in #1 probably makes it the more captivating image. #2 is probably more rare with the meteor and the Aurora on that night. Maybe take a little artistic license and add a bit more saturation to the sky in #2?

I was on the bridge. Here's the view from that evening.

I do have some daytime shots from the rocks below the bridge. I haven't really processed those yet but here's a jpg edit.

I looked at that reel. I think he filmed that on the morning before I took this. We saw a huge crowd on the bridge that morning, and wanted no part of it.

How interesting. It's great I guess that there is a bridge there. If standing on rocks was the only option, I imagine it would be really crazy and probably a bit unsafe.

I did look for you while watching the Reel just in case you were up there, but didn't see you. But it looked like close to 75 people up there. Do you know if they all would have been staying in Lofoten?

They would pretty much have to be - it is a 5 hour drive from there to get out of the islands. There are plenty of places to stay within half an hour of that spot to support hundreds of people.

I have some drone footage that I'll edit together soon that shows the area a little better (Alejandro shot it). I took this photo from a hill on a neighboring island and you can see the bridge and buildings in the background on the right.
