I was in Miami last week participating in an Architecture photography workshop. I captured this scene after the workshop was over. I was staying at the Kimpton Epic Hotel on the 23rd floor. During halftime while watching the superbowl, I decided it was time to have some photography fun on the balcony of my room. Using my 100 - 400mm I zoomed in on this pool scene across the water way. This is a composite of two images with a little layer mask magic in photoshop. The zoom explosion effect was done in camera.

All comments are welcome. Blast away....so to speak!

Very cool Tex! I like your creativity.

So you took your 100-400mm on a architecture workshop? I guess I would be thinking wide angles for that, and I probably would have left my long lens back at home.

Jim: With architecture photography you frequently want to zoom in on details of a building to capture a unique shot. You can take a look at some of the images I captured of the Aqua building in Chicago. For many of those I was using my 70-200mm with a 2X extender for the reach. I bought the 100-400mm in December, after the Chicago trip - because evil Canon lowered the price by $400.00 and triggered my equipment lust button, so this was my first time using it. I learned that it is too darn heavy to use as hand held! It will be for tripod shots going forward! My wrist has given me explicit instructions!

I have had that same lens for about 10 years and haul it with me just about everywhere. Very rare for me to do hand held shots with it as it's a seriously heavy piece of glass but I am still quite fond of it.
