Plitvice Details

I've already shared a few photos from Plitvice National Park in Croatia - but I didn't just photograph the big views and major waterfalls. I went into the park three times in the 2 days I was there. The park is very crowded during the mid-day when day-trippers and tours are out in force. We arrived late afternoon on the first day and explored the lower lakes area. I took a few photos I liked but the light wasn't great. I did, however, figure out where I wanted to return. I then re-entered the park right when it opened the next morning, while my wife was sleeping and then getting ready for the day, to spend some time on the scenes I had scouted and other details. The two of us then returned with the crowds later that morning to explore the upper lakes area.

So, with that background, here is a relatively large collection of photos that I liked. I'd love to hear which ones (if any) particularly resonate with people.

1) This is zoomed into the many waterfalls in the foreground from the night shot I shared when I first returned

2) This is a photogenic boardwalk that provides access to the waterfalls I'll be sharing next. This shot was taken from the high trail on the rim of the canyon

3) Cascades along the boardwalk

4) Another cascade along the boardwalk

5) The boardwalk from ground level

6) Waterfalls in foreground and background

7) A wider view of that background fall with a couple of its friends

Wow - that place is absolutely amazing for falling water. I love the hue of the water for starters but the sheer number of falls along these drop-offs is almost hard to take in. The first two images do a pretty good job of presenting the breadth of the waterfall madness in this place which is really needed to get a grip on what the next seven shots present. Out the more detailed scenes #7 is the one that grabs my attention the most with the wider view shows me the water below the falls as well as the lush mountains behind. #3, #4, and #6 are next if I need to rate them all with #6 floating to the top with this group with the neat near and far falls in the scene - nice DoF in that one. I like the deep lush vegetation and smaller falls in the remaining three shots (#5, #8, and #9) along with the smaller waterfall scenes but they suffer only from being on the same page as the rest of this collection :)

So awesome Kyle! That's great that you got back there a couple of times. With the closer views this kind of reminds me of Havasu Falls but on a much larger scale.

My favorites are #1, 4 and 7.

I do think I would crop #1 to lose that blue in the background, that would raise the boardwalk up to the top and I think it just frames it better. The little bit of waterfalls you lose on the upper left didn't seem to hurt it when I cropped it by scrolling.

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback Alan. It really is a lot to take in. Based on the fact that you and Jim both called out #7 I've gone ahead and done a minor edit to hopefully bring out just a little more.

Thanks Jim - good callout on the crop. I've been struggling with that scene as the lake above the falls is pretty in its own right, but I agree it is a distraction. Here are a few edits just for grins.

1) This is a wider view of the first image, showing the scene above the falls and surrounding landscape

2) A crop as Jim suggested in the first image above that really emphasizes the falls

3) A relatively subtle edit of #7 above to bring out a little more light. I mostly just wanted to give this one a little more attention since both Alan and Jim liked it.
