Rain for Thee But Not for Me

A sunset panorama scene looking towards Mt. St. Helens with thunderstorms on the east side of the Cascades offering up some evening color on Saturday. Every once in a while such storms spill over to the west side of the mountains but it's not common. The colors to the west were pretty much a bust that evening but this was the first time I had an evening view of St. Helens in a couple of weeks.

Four panels at 70mm. Best viewed on a large screen.

The mountains can sure because an invisible wall in the sky to hold back weather. I have seen that a lot in Colorado as well.

But it did make for some nice colors for you, holding that back for you.

Thanks Jim - during the winter months when the storm track is from the west we get feet of rain while the east side gets inches so summer is sort of payback time. We have had more clouds spill over the mountains which has given me quite a few nice sunsets but very little rain came along with them.

Nice pastels in the sky for this view. We had a much weaker version of this sunset on Saturday although I was not home to capture it.

Thanks Jameel - I was up in the air looking for something else to shoot since the view in the west was a bust and this looked like a good possibility on my controller screen. Too much smoke near Mt. Hood for anything in that direction.

I really like panos, and this one is great
Thanks Aaron - when I shot this last weekend I had no idea that some of the thunderstorms really were going to spill over the mountains and offer up some showers. The monsoon rains on the east side of the Cascades have offered up some really nice sunsets over the past couple of weeks.
