... More and more I am seeing the irrelevance of "sharpness". Yes, slightly missed focus at F1.2. But, the effect and impression of the image as a whole is still there. Even possibly enhanced by soft tail light.
... A modern lens and pinpoint auto focus would have a razor sharp tail light. And, I believe a relatively flat wash of a background- a separated subject/context image. This vintage lens integrates the focus authentically with the background, and creates a tremendous, dramatic sense of depth.

I am normally one of those that spends far too much attention on fine detail so you are making me think outside of my usual space. There is a strong feeling of depth in this image.

… Alan: I believe that we all have been misled by technicians to value bitingly sharp images. Our challenge is to relearn to see images through non-photographer eyes, simply and innocently… to stand back and consider the image as a whole, instead of examining every pixel at 100%.

Hey Iain, I think you hit on something important, I agree it's the effect of the photo and the impression it gives that matters most.

A question, what's the title mean?

Such a true statement!
