Thanks Joe - they can be so still for so long it almost gets boring waiting for them to do somethingNice shot Alan. It's amazing how they can just stand soo still while hunting.
Thanks Alan - this small pond is somewhat protected from the wind and can offer up some amazing reflections.Excellent Alan. The mirror like water provides a stunning reflection.
Thanks - its was a semi cloudy day so the light wasn't direct to give more contrast between the reflection and the bird.Good catch Alan. Funny how the color on the reflection is different, it's looks as though it's a different bird. Very cool.
Thanks Jim - that's one of the calling cards of this pond besides being close to my house. The water is still, the Heron is still. What a cool reflection and image.
Thanks Beth - the water in this pond is a far cry from fresh mountain snowmelt. Salmon Creek does originate in the foothills of the Cascades but it has traveled through many miles of lowlands with roadway runoff and semi rural areas with septic tanks before it gets to this pond. The waterfowl don't seem to care but I used to wash down my old canoe thoroughly after paddling just downstream from here.not quite so blue in the reflection, that's some muddy water. great reflection and pose.
Thanks Jameel - pretty much my take on it as well. Good reflections are easy to come by around this pond and this GBH is a regular there.Still waters with a bird standing still. Hard to go wrong with this setup. Nice reflection.
Thanks Trent - good thought on cleaning up the distractions. I will play around with that.It is wonderful you have this close to your home. The reflection is remarkable and the image compelling. Hey Alan...I wonder if it would be worth cloning out some of the pond debris that is touching the head and bill. It is mildly distracting.
