The Lion Nebula - SH2-132

We have had so many guys here posting these awesome images of the Lion Nebula, that I had to get out and capture it for myself. So thanks to the inspiration you guys!

I went out to Joshua Tree National Park on Wednesday night to capture this. The skies were clear, the wind had been forecasted to be in the 10-20mph range which is more then I would like, but it ended up being only around 10mph, so that was great.

In hindsight, I should have rotated my camera for this, I wanted the Lion to be standing flat on the ground, as it is, he is tilted. I guess this gives me a good reason to go capture it again sometime. :)

84 - Lights at 300 secs with the Optolong L-Enhance Filter
30 - Flats
30 - Dark/Flats
10 - Darks

Ok, NOW we're talkin! One of your very best for sure. It obviously helps to have such a mesmerizing object and a decently dark sky. This looks very very good to my eye - I frequently nit pick you on various aspects of your post processing, but this time I just do not see anything that I do not like. Really great job! Get that stick-in-the-mud moderator to make this the featured astrophoto - it deserves it! :)

Thanks so much Mike!

Being able to image all night on one object probably helps as I have more integrated images. I think I have finally been doing it long enough that I am starting to be patient enough to just image 1 object all night.

I appreciate the high praise from you. I am still very much a work in progress, but I think I am getting the hang of it.

And ha ha... you know that guy is a real stick in the mud, maybe a couple of sticks in the mud even. ;)

What a fantastic image. Makes me want to re-visit mine now, as I originally processed it only in PS; I think it deserves a run through in PI now. Very inspiring, well done.

Thanks so much Andy! I think you should reprocess it, I bet it would look a lot different now.

That is very nice! There's great detail in your image and I really like the contrast of the various emissions. Definitely my next target!
