The River Nile

Digging a little deep in my collection for this one - a traditional oarsman setting out his fishing nets in the River Nile. Shot from the banks on the area of Garden City near Cairo.

C&C always welcome.

Interesting take, Alan. The boat and oars look to be from a time long gone.
That pretty much describes Egypt once you get out of the urban areas. I never had a chance to stop and take photos along the roads in the rural areas but it was common to see the family cow hitched up and going in a circle while driving a water wheel to bring irrigation to their fields. All field work was still done by hand using tools that look identical to the murals in the dynastic tombs as of 1977 when I took this image. The water wheels looked pretty much the same as the 3000 year old murals as well.

It looks like he is probably struggling a bit and the picture leaves you questioning how much waterway is behind him to paddle through. I like pictures showing lifestyles in other cultures.
