This was taken on a very foggy morning at Yellowstone NP in late September this year near Grand Prismatic Spring. We had just visited the spring and were hiking to Fairy Falls which goes behind the Spring. The fog was just beginning to lift and shapes were slowly taking form. This was taken with my little Olympus XA4 and Tri X film. I developed this in HC 110 and scanned on a Kodak Pakon F135+, just slight levels/sharpening in LR6.

A very stark looking scene since we can't quite make out the forest that surrounds us from this viewpoint. The standing snags add to that stark mood. B&W is perfect for this.

Very nice Jon! B&W fits those conditions so well. The colors tend to be muted anyway, and the B&W really lets the tones take control. Nicely composed here, I like the staggered trees, and the mist that comes up there, especially early morning is so fun to shoot with.

Thank you Leslie for the feedback. Stark is the right word and what I felt at that time, stark and isolated. When the fog lifted at mid day, the swarms of people came out and no longer did we feel isolate, lol!
